What’s Your Worldview

The World.jpg

Worldview is just a term that means how you look and react to the world you live in. Everyone has a worldview and it is shaped by everything that occurs in a person’s life.

Have you ever met someone that always sees everything in a positive light? No matter how bad the situation may be, he can always find a bright side to it. That person has an optimistic worldview.

A materialistic worldview sees that life consists mainly of the tangible. A materialistic slogan is expressed on the bumper sticker  “He who dies with the most toys wins!” People having this world view do not count the afterlife for much because it is an unknown to them.

A person’s worldview also has many facets to it. For instant a person can have an optimistic materialistic worldview or a pessimistic materialistic worldview. Feelings and education on subjects like capitalism, socialism, love, marriage, body image, religion and more effect a worldview.

Because so many things can effect our worldview every person has their own unique worldview. This also means we can have a worldview that is not correct. For instant some females enter adult hood with a worldview that they must conform to the female image presented on magazines. They don’t understand that those females images have been manipulated and that the real people don’t look like that. Some males enter adult hood with a worldview that believes males are better than females. They don’t understand that simply is not true and it is just sexism.

The good news is that a worldview can be corrected. There is a correct worldview. It is called a Biblical worldview. This worldview is shaped by the information that God has given in the Bible. It should be the overriding authority in our lives.

For example God says that life consist of more than just this brief vapor that we live on earth. Adding that to our worldview means that this world is not all there is to life. God say that He is a just God. Adding that to our worldview means that we can expect from God to be treated with all fairness. God says that we are to love one another. Adding that to our worldview changes the way we treat people. These teachings in the Bible along with many more help us build a Biblical worldview. That enables us to please God.

The only way to build a Biblical worldview in yourself is to study the Bible, not just read it. But don’t take my word for it. Study it yourself and you will find that God expects you to look at the world the way he does.

What Are You Living For?

As a Christian I have long been aware of the personal application of Hebrews 9:27.

"And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment

I tell you though even before I was Christian I was well aware of the first part men die once. It does not matter about your political views, your religious views, your wealth, or your health you will one day exit this world. If cremated your ashes will be scattered and forgotten or place in a jar and lost. It is no better if you prefer to be buried for even cemeteries in time die and are forgotten like the one pictured. Another decade or two it will be lost.

I don't mean for this post to be morbid I am just making clear that no matter what your best effort is some day you will no longer be remembered.  Which then brings me to the title. What are you living for? The Princes Bride aficionado will answer true love but actually each person must decide this for themselves. For me the answer is so that I will hear my love Jesus tell me one day "Well done good and faithful servant." This is achieved by loving my neighbor as myself. For those around me this means they are to see in me a person that truly cares for them and desires to be a positive influence in their lives. Some would say I am foolish for believing in Jesus but setting my belief aside is it not still a good thing to love the people around you as much as you love yourself. Once again I ask you what are you living for?

Note: I don't do good because I think it will earn me a reward. I do good because I love Jesus and want him to be proud of me the same way a child that loves his parents wants to please them and make them proud.

People Are Like Software

The are some who believe that people are basically good and there are others who believe that people are basically bad. I put forward the idea that all have the potential for doing good or bad and all are broken (Biblical world view).

All of the mainstream computer software used today has bugs in it. Whether it is the OS or an application. The bugs do not stop us from using it. They just get in the way. Sometimes your computer crashes and sometimes the app just quiets unexpectedly. As time progresses the manufacturers make patches that fix some bugs.

People are the same. We come into this world not a perfect clean slate but immature and buggy. As we grow parents, teachers and others instill in us bug and security patches. Hopefully making us better but not always. Even God steps in and makes some major upgrades and patches if we humble ourselves before him. So the next time you see someone doing things that are wrong or will cause themselves harm don’t think them a loss cause but someone in need of an upgrade.

One caveat just like a data file can be so corrupt that you can’t retrieve the information form it so to are some people. Everyone else is in danger so long as that person is free.

62 is The Middle Age

As far as humans go what is old and what is young is a matter of perspective. An 18 year old thinks 40 is old. An 80 year old thinks 40 is young. What you think effects how you feel.

In 2001 I met a man that forever change the way I look at age. From this encounter I decided that middle age is 62. For years I heard that 40 was middle age but I have since past that and I do not feel that my life is half over. Barring any major medical problems I believe I still have more than 40 productive years ahead of me followed by about 40 years semi retirement.

So the next time you start to feel old remember the goal is 124. To depart this world at less than 124 is to not fulfill your potential. (Simple reminder life is not about what you get out of it but about what you put in to it.)

Words of Wisdom

These were forwarded to me by a friend of mine. No telling where she got them from but I thought all my friends needed them too.

The best way to get even is to forget...

Feed your faith and your doubts will starve to death.

God wants spiritual fruit, not religious nuts...

Some folks wear their halos much too tight...

Some marriages are made in heaven, but they ALL have to be maintained on earth...

Unless you can create the WHOLE universe in 5 days, then perhaps giving "advice" to God, isn't such a good idea.

Sorrow looks back, worry looks around, and faith looks up

Standing in the middle of the road is dangerous. You will get knocked down by the traffic from both ways.

Words are windows to the heart.

A skeptic is a person who when he sees the handwriting on the wall, claims it's a forgery.

It isn't difficult to make a mountain out of a molehill, just add a little dirt.

A successful marriage isn't finding the right person-it's being the right person.

The mighty oak tree was once a little nut that held its ground.

Too many people offer God prayers with claw marks all over them.

The tongue must be heavy indeed, because so few people can hold it.

To forgive is to set the prisoner free, and then discover the prisoner was you.

You have to wonder about humans, they think God is dead and Elvis is alive.

Love Is A Choice

I have long taught that love is not a feeling. It is a choice. The feelings that I have had for my wife have swung a great deal over the years but the love I have for her has just grown. Twenty years may seem like a long time by today's standards but it is just a third of what is hoped for. We have not been together this long because we are any better than other people but because we both love Jesus and we have both decided to love one another.

One Enemy

... because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8b, NKJV).

I have only one enemy in all the world. Oh sure my religious and political views are not liked by all and even in some nations life threatening. And from some people's prospective they may consider me an enemy but I really only have one enemy and that is the devil. All the others are just pawns used by him. Stephen knew this. That is why as he was being stoned to death he did not call on God's wrath for his persecutors but he asked for God's mercy for them.

If you too call yourself a Christian remember that those that opposes you are not you enemies. The enemy stands behind them and they know not what they are doing.

Grace and Mercy

Two great attributes of God that we should give thanks for is grace and mercy. Mercy is wonderful. Basically mercy from God means that you do not get what you deserve. Our whole lives we do things that on the grand scale should be punished by God. We deserve a very severe
punishment but because He is merciful we do not get what we deserve.

Grace is astounding. Basically grace from God means that you get what you do not deserve. There is nothing that we have every done that demands that God to allow us to be in His eternal presence. Nothing! And yet because He is a gracious God he will permit us to be in His presence and enjoy Him for eternity. Of course both grace and mercy from God are available only through belief in Jesus Christ the Lord  and repentance towards God.

But I want you to contemplate is that you being in the image of God should also practices grace and mercy towards your fellow man. For in so doing you glorify God and honor His presence in you.
