The New Public Soap Box Facebook

I saw an article about children threaten with expulsion because of what they wrote about a teacher on Facebook. Set aside the fact that schools should not even be policing Facebook and parents should be policing their children. When I was in school my fiends and I would say things about teachers that we did not like. If a child is caught depending on the severity of what was said or wrote the punishment should range from an apology to clean up duty or an extra assignment. Threat of expulsion should not be an option.

Our schools are so off track. We will expel a child for writing something nasty on his Facebook but we will not expel a child for cursing out his teacher in class. The fix is easier said than done. Public education has to move back to being a privilege and not a right.
